Sisters of Saint Joseph of Annecy

Necrology Sr. Justina Morrin

Noeleen Brigid Morrin was born on 30th November 1931 to Francis Joseph and Mary Morrin, in Inchicore, Dublin. Her siblings were Patrick, Michael, Maureen, Aileen, Frank, James, Sadie, Brendan, Joseph, all sadly deceased, and Tommy and Carmel (Sr. Miriam).
In 1947, at the age of 16, Noeleen entered the convent in Killorglin. She was there for two years before travelling to the novitiate at Llantarnam Abbey in South Wales. At her clothing she was given the name Sr. Justina. She made her First Vows in May 1951 and her Final Profession on 8th December 1954.
She went on her mission to various communities: in 1952 to Devizes in Wiltshire, in 1957 to Tredegar Park, Newport, and in 1959 to Grove Park in London.
In 1967 Sr. Justina went for her nurse training as a State Enrolled Nurse to the Brook Hospital. She took a course in Operating Theatre Studies and in 1970 She became part of the community of St. Joseph’s Hospital in Malpas, Newport.
During these years she undertook the 3-month renewal course in Hawkstone and a personal counselling course.
Sr. Justina spent many years as a ward nurse and in the operating theatre at St. Joseph’s and was able to be part of the local parish life, too. She had a great mission with people. She so enjoyed being part of the St. David Lewis parish in Bettws. Then, when she moved to Skelmorlie Community, Newport, she also took St. Mary’s parish to her heart. Sr. Justina loved the people, and they love her. Both parishes would have been fitting venues for this Requiem Mass.
Sr. Justina also had a great love for Our Lady of Lourdes and for many years until very recently took part in an annual pilgrimage.
In March 2025 Sister joined the community in Willow House, Newport. She continued her established routine supporting St. Mary’s parish and not forgetting St. David Lewis. She had so many people to interact with.
Sr. Justina was blest with a long and active life well into her 90’s before ill health came upon her. She was treated at the Royal Gwent Hospital and went to the New Inn community for recuperation.
However, after some time in the New Inn community, she was able to travel to Dublin for her last holiday. Her family made it possible, and she had a wonderful time. She was looking forward to returning then to community in Newport, but this was not to be. She collapsed two days after her return from Ireland. She was treated in hospital but there were no signs of recovery. She returned to New Inn community and died very peacefully in the early hours of Wednesday 20th August, her sister, Sr. Miriam being asleep in the room next door.
The funeral took place on Wednesday 10th September at St. David’s Church, Pontnewydd. Eight priests concelebrated and the Church was full with Sisters, family and parishioners. Sister was buried at Llantarnam Abbey.

Sr. Justina’s own message:
“Just to thank my family for all the help and support they always gave me.
Also, the Sisters for the kindness, support and encouragement they gave me over the years, being a long and happy life. The priests and all my friends in Bettws and Malpas and latter years in Newport and former years in Grove Park.
I have had very happy memories with the Sisters and People in all places.”

May she rest in peace.
