Jokalandi, Bharatpur, August 15, 2024 – A beacon of hope and compassion was illuminated in the heart of Jokalandi as St. Joseph’s Ashram unveiled its newly constructed wing on India’s Independence Day. This momentous occasion marked the culmination of a long-held dream to provide enhanced care for the elderly sisters who have dedicated their lives to serving the congregation & others.

The inauguration ceremony was graced by the presence of His Grace, Most Rev. John Barwa SVD, Archbishop of the Cuttack-Bhubaneswar Archdiocese, along with Sr. Leena Jacob SSJA, Provincial Superior, and other dignitaries. The atmosphere was charged with joy, gratitude, and anticipation as the community gathered to celebrate this significant milestone.

Sr. Pauline, Superior of St. Joseph’s Ashram, expressed her heartfelt gratitude, stating, “Today is more than just the opening of a new building. It is a renewal of our commitment to creating a nurturing and compassionate home for our elderly sisters.”

The ceremonial ribbon-cutting, performed by Sr. Leena Jacob SSJA, marked the official opening of the new wing. As the dignitaries lit the lamp, invoking divine blessings, the air was filled with hope and optimism for the future.

Archbishop John Barwa offered prayers, blessed the Chapel & celebrated a solemn Eucharist, emphasizing the importance of honouring those who have served society tirelessly. “St. Joseph’s Ashram is a testament to our love and respect for the elderly,” he said. “It is truly a paradise for our beloved sisters.”

The journey to this day began on December15, 2022, when the foundation stone was laid by Sr. Breda the Superior General. Now, as the new wing opens its doors, it signifies a renewed commitment to providing the highest level of care and comfort for the elderly residents.

“This is a day of immense joy and pride,” shared Sr. Pauline. “With this new wing, we are better equipped to serve our elderly sisters, who deserve our utmost care and respect.” Beyond the physical structure, the inauguration of the new wing represents a renewed spirit of love and dedication. The Ashram is also home to a vibrant community of young sisters who contribute to the various apostolic needs of the community. Their presence brings a unique energy and vitality to the Ashram, fostering a rich environment of mutual support and care. The intergenerational living arrangement promises a harmonious blend of experience and youth. The elderly sisters can share their wisdom and life lessons with the younger generation, while the young sisters bring a fresh perspective and enthusiasm. This mutual exchange of love, laughter, and experiential knowledge will undoubtedly enrich the lives of everyone residing at St. Joseph’s Ashram.

The Ashram extends its sincere gratitude to the Medaille Foundation for their generous financial support, which made this project a reality. The exceptional craftsmanship and meticulous planning by the architect Mr. Rajesh and his team have resulted in a beautifully constructed building that is perfectly equipped to cater to the needs of the elderly sisters. The new wing boasts a serene and splendid atmosphere, featuring a spacious prayer room, a cozy dining area, 26 comfortable rooms, a sick bay, and a welcoming visitor's Parlor, among other amenities.

As Archbishop Barwa eloquently stated, “It is not the building, but the love within it, that makes this a true home.” St. Joseph’s Ashram stands as a shining example of the power of community, faith, and unwavering commitment to serving those in need.
