A Journey of Faith and Grace in India
On October 15, 2022, I embarked on a journey of faith, leaving behind familiar shores to embrace the mission entrusted to me in India. My travels took me from Bangalore to Visakhapatnam, marking my first experience on local trains, enduring long and tiring hours. Yet, through it all, I felt the gentle and steadfast companionship of my God, whispering, “I am with you always, to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:20).
Upon arriving in Visakhapatnam, I was greeted with extraordinary warmth by the provincial superior, Sister Rose, her team, and the Waltair community members. Their joy-filled welcome touched my heart deeply, making me feel immediately at home. The next day, October 16, I joined the community at Fort Convent, a small but loving group of three sisters. Their kindness reassured me that I was exactly where God wanted me to be.
Although I faced many challenges with the language, culture , food and such diversities I humbly embraced the opportunity to grow, trusting in God’s promise: “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9). I began helping and learning English in the LKG (Lower Kindergarten) classes—a humbling and transformative experience. Through the simplicity and joy of the children, I encountered the presence of God in new and profound ways.
As I immersed myself in the Indian culture, I was amazed by its richness and beauty. I discovered striking similarities between Indian and African traditions—values of hospitality, simplicity, sociable community, and loving care. While I initially faced moments of doubt and hesitation, I soon experienced the truth of Jesus’ prayer: “That they may all be one, as you, Father, are in me, and I am in you” (John 17:21).
On April 01, 2024, I was transferred to the waltair community and currently working in the college, a thrilling new chapter in my mission. Here, I found countless opportunities to grow, serve, and be a blessing to the students and my sisters in the community. I witnessed God’s hand guiding me in ways both big and small, filling my days with purpose and joy.
Throughout my time in India, I have felt deeply united with the spirit of St. Joseph. Despite being far from my home community, I experienced the universal bond of our Congregation, rooted in love and shared charism. As St. Joseph himself quietly trusted in God’s plan, I too have learned to surrender and find peace in His will.
Of course, the journey has not been without its trials. Administrative challenges and paperwork occasionally tested my patience and strength. Yet even in these moments, I felt the powerful hand of God at work. Miracles unfolded in unexpected ways, reminding me of the psalmist’s words: “The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and He helps me” (Psalm 28:7).
This journey has been a tapestry of grace, woven with threads of faith, love, and growth. The care and support of my sisters, the warmth of the people I serve, and the constant presence of God have filled my heart with gratitude. I am reminded daily that “All things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to His purpose” (Romans 8:28).
As I reflect on my time here, I am overwhelmed with a sense of awe ,peace, thanksgiving and with lots of joy. This mission has been a beautiful reminder of the universality of our faith and the unbreakable bond that unites us as one family in Christ. Truly, these days in India have been unforgettable—a testament to God’s unceasing faith.
