 MY VILLAGE EXPERIENCE
DURING THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2022

An internship learning contract assists the intern in making a meaningful contribution to the organization, as well as setting goals which help to continue professional growth and development.
Social work is a practice-based profession and an academic discipline that promotes social change and development, social cohesion, and the empowerment and liberation of people. Principles of social justice, human rights, collective responsibility and respect for diversities are central to social work. Underpinned by theories of social work, social sciences, humanities and indigenous knowledge, social work engages people and structures to address life challenges and enhance wellbeing.
As we know our founder Fr. Medaille set no limits to the mission of his ‘Little Design’. We go by preference to the poorest and the most neglected and we seek to form apostles who will continue to spread the gospel message that all our called to the greatest love. In my work as a social worker that is what I endeavour to do.
I set out below the objectives and activities to do with the internship I undertook.
Objectives
 Explore career alternatives prior to graduation
 Integrate theory and practice
 Assess interests and abilities in their field of study
 Learn to appreciate work and its function in the economy
Activities.
 Maternal and child health
 Under- morbidity
 Family planning details
 Disease specific information
 Disability
 Education facilities
 Health facilities
 Wash and water sanitation and hygiene
 Social activity in the village

My experience
The rural immersion program allows me to develop sensitivity to rural issues through direct experiential learning, imitating as it says in Luke 22:24 “I did not come to be served but to serve.” According to me I feel it’s connected with the local NGO partners working in the areas of livelihood, health and education.

Conclusion

The internship was a useful experience. I have find out what my strengths and weaknesses are; I gained new knowledge and skills and met many new people. I achieved many of my learning goals, however for some the conditions did not permit to achieve them as I wanted.
