Soeurs de Saint Joseph d'Annecy

Necrologyof Sr. Priscilla Mutholil 1936 -2025

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” (2 Timothy 4:7)

Sr. Priscilla, born Mary KuttyMutholil, was the cherished daughter of late Mr. Augustine Mutholil and Mrs. Annamma Mutholil. She was born on 1st September 1936 in Palai, in the Diocese of Palai, Kerala. She was the fifth among nine children - blessed with two elder brothers, two elder sisters, and three younger sisters.

From her earliest days, Sr. Priscilla was nurtured in a devout Catholic family, where her parents instilled in her a deep faith in God. Inspired by the sisters in her parish, her heart was drawn towards religious life. When her mother asked if she wished to marry or join the convent, she readily shared her desire to serve in the missions.

After completing Class 10, her parish priest inquired about her future plans. She replied with conviction that she wanted to go to the missions. He directed her to Fr. George Vayalil, who promoted vocations to the Sisters of St. Joseph of Annecy in Visakhapatnam. Although he suggested, she waited until December, when she firmly expressed her wish to leave immediately. Around that time, she met Sr. Gerard and her brother, who were travelling to Visakhapatnam. With her parents’ blessings, she joined them - experiencing in that moment the guiding power of God in her vocational journey.

She made her First Profession on 11th January 1957 and her Final Profession on 17th January 1967. Equipped with her Teachers’ Training Certificate and later a Bachelor of Education degree, she dedicated herself to the ministry of education in various schools, including Kakinada, Parvathipuram, S. Kota, Araku, and Salur.

Beyond her teaching ministry, Sr. Priscilla faithfully served as Superior in different communities, Provincial Secretary, and Junior Mistress for the formation of young sisters. In every responsibility entrusted to her, she was known for her meticulous care, unwavering commitment, and fidelity to her call as a Sister of St. Joseph of Annecy.

Sr. Priscilla will be remembered not only for her dedication to mission, but also for her kindness, understanding nature, loving heart and empathetic magnanimity to the poor of all kinds. She had a gentle presence that uplifted those around her, and she treated everyone with respect and compassion. Thus, her entire life was a living embodiment of our Maxim 48 that reads: “Seek God's glory alone in all you do; your own and your neighbour's salvation and perfection, and not the consolation and pleasure that may go with doing good.”

We also express our sincere thanks to Archbishop Prakash Mallavarapu, Archbishop Emeritus of Visakhapatnam, for his valuable homily; to the Provincial of the MSFS; the Vicar General; the Chancellor; and all the priests, brothers, and sisters who have come to pay homage to our dear May her soul rest in peace Sisters of St. Joseph of Annecy Visakhapatnam.
