"> Josephine, East Africa

I am Sr Josephine Gotikela and have been working in Tanzania since 2013.

I studied nursing at St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in Visakhapatnam, India, from 2005 to 2009.  I began working as a nurse to alleviate the suffering of patients.

For four years I worked in Khamma with HIV patients.

In 2013 I came to Tanzania where we have a health centre at Dumila.  There we treat a large number of women prone to various diseases as well as many complications during delivery.  I worked in the theatre in Dumila as the circulating nurse, but we help wherever necessary since we have small number of people.  I also used to help the anaesthetist, receiving the baby and overall making patients comfortable during their operation, just being kind to them or receiving the baby at birth.

Nursing is about teamwork and we as a team work together for the recovery of the patients.  Indeed I am happy to see so many patients, in spite of many complications, get well and go home. With the help if God’s grace we as a team were able to treat them and most got better. I enjoyed seeing the happiness of recovery in their eyes

In 2016 I was transferred to Dar es Salaam.  Here a dispensary is under construction and the people are waiting for the services they need to begin.
